I finally beat Silksong. Here are my hand-drawn maps + proof that I never even unlocked the map tab. There were a couple of dodgy Alt-F4s to avoid having a map foisted upon me, like when it gave you one without warning in the Cogwork Core. Was nice to not have to spend tons of money on Shakra, but according to friends she helps you out in some hard arenas if you buy her maps as they are sold. Welp.

All in all, a great experience. I think mapping enhances your engagement with a game. If you've never tried it, go play the Original Legend of Zelda and map the overworld on a piece of graph-paper with big cells (I'll give you a hint - it's 16 cells across, 8 cells high).

I looked it up and turns out you can't actually unlock the true ending without buying maps from Shakra Team Cherry Pls Fix.
